Cylindrical Milling Cutter
Used on horizontal milling machines to machine flat surfaces. The cutting teeth are distributed around the circumference of the cutter; based on tooth geometry, they are classified into two types: Straight-toothed and helical-toothed. Based on the number of teeth, they are categorized as coarse-toothed or fine-toothed. Coarse-toothed helical cutters feature fewer teeth, high tooth strength, and ample chip clearance, making them suitable for roughing operations; fine-toothed cutters are suitable for finishing operations.
Face Milling Cutter
Also known as a disc milling cutter, this tool is used on vertical, face, or gantry milling machines to machine flat surfaces. It features cutting teeth on both its face (end) and circumference, and is also classified into coarse-toothed and fine-toothed varieties. Its structural designs fall into three categories: solid (integral), inserted-tooth, and indexable-insert types.
End Mill
Used for machining grooves, steps, and similar features. It possesses cutting teeth on both its circumference and face; typically, it cannot be fed axially during operation. However, if the end mill features cutting teeth that extend across its center, axial feeding is permissible.
Three-Side Milling Cutter
Used for machining various grooves and stepped surfaces; it features cutting teeth on both of its side faces and along its circumference.
Angular Milling Cutter
Used for milling grooves at specific angles; these cutters are classified into two types: single-angle and double-angle cutters.
Slitting Saw (Saw-Blade Milling Cutter)
Used for machining deep slots and for cutting off workpieces; it features a relatively large number of cutting teeth distributed around its circumference. To minimize friction during the milling process, the cutting teeth are designed with a secondary relief angle (side clearance) of 15 minutes to 1 degree on their sides. Additionally, there are various specialized cutters such as keyseat cutters, dovetail cutters, T-slot cutters, and various form cutters.
T-Slot Cutter
Used specifically for milling T-shaped slots.
